Most visitors are wowed by it's New Testament connections. That is indeed impressive, but I was wowed by it's mythological connections to the Amazons. They are depicted here on one of the ruined buildings:
Is everyone on vacation except me? I saw this before and considered cheating. Obviously I am not that worldly...at first I thought it looked like Rome...

ReplyDeleteThe buildings are Roman in style, but this is the site of ancient Ephesus in Turkey, just a short bus ride away from the bustling city of Kusidasi (pronounced kooshasah).
The apostles Paul and John came here, and legend has it that Mary, mother of Jesus, died in a hillside house here.
It may seem like my trip had a religious bent - but not so - one can't help but stumble upon all sorts of history (religious, legend, myth) in these areas.
