Farmer's Market

Yesterday, hubby, dog, and I strolled down to the farmer's market. We had a very pleasant walk, the weather was beautiful. We even bumped into my son's girlfriend who was on her way to the market too.

The market was busy with people. This is the market's third year in our quaint little downtown. In its first year I was a participant and sold homemade candies and fudge. I really enjoyed the experience, lots of happy people all enjoying the market on a Saturday morning.

Yesterday we came away from the market with these various items:

Honey from two sisters (I would guess teen and pre-teen) who have been keeping bees for the past four years. They started beekeeping as a 4-H project.

A sixpack of fern cakes from the local owner of a Gaelic Imports shop who sells pasties and pies and confections at the market on Saturday mornings.

Three breakfast cakes from a seller of all-vegan treats.

A package of double ginger almond biscotti from a local baker's booth.

A small bag of green beans.

And not pictured here because I forgot about it when taking the picture, a bag maple coated puffed spelt which I bought from an Amish man. It was homemade and the maple syrup was locally produced.

Also not pictured, a little package of homemade dog biscuits - peanut butter- for Strider. He enjoyed them while we sat at outside a local shop and hubby and I slurped fruit smoothies.

Today it's back to the damp, drizzly weather we've had for most of the past week. It's nice that the damp took a break for the market.

Sounds like a perfect day! And some wonderful goodies purchased.
Weather was dry here yesterday thankfully! Summer is turning out to be quite miserable again this year, sigh!! and its such a disappointment as it looked as if it was set for a great summer this year, even the met office decided it was going to be a barbecue summer.... How wrong they were!!
We have been told that August is going to very poor after all... and the nights already seem to be drawing in, dare I mention the word autumnal!!!
Take care! and cuddly hugs to Strider!!
With Love, Jane xxx

Hi adrienne!

The fern cakes are yummy - they're little tarts that are all almondy and apricoty inside.

And btw, today is gorgeous and the humidity has let up again, hooray!

Hi Jane!

Having been to England this summer, I can say that our local weather lately is similar to what you've been experiencing. Cool and often rainy.

And I can relate to the weather already feeling almost autumnal!

Hope all is well, give lots of pats to Basil, and a big doggy woof from Strider!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and for the lead...I will definitely follow up on that! Renaissance faires and such have always seemed like a natural for the banners, but I was unaware of Dagorhil until I heard it from you.
I actually envy your drizzle. We have been in the grip of a heat wave in Portland OR. Not used to it, and feeling all wilty.

Hi ricki!

You're welcome, just thought I'd pass the info along - and thanks for stopping by my blog, too.

I hope you get a break soon from your heat wave - maybe it's moved on because we are about to get hit with honest to gosh summer temps here today and for the next few days. Time to dust the AC off!

Hi Kim!

I did just a little better than break even - enough to put a few extra dollars in my pocket every week when selling my candies.

If you were to count the hours that I put into making the candy, then I was totally in the red ; )

But I really enjoyed the experience.
