Apple trees and visitors

I've been busy cleaning up the aftermath of a drastic pruning of our apple tree in the backyard. What used to be almost as tall as our house is now as tall as maybe two of me stacked up.If we didn't kill it, it may come back and someday be a manageable fruit tree.

And then there's the house cleaning, too. We're having overnight company early next week. I love company, but I hate cleaning. I would much rather tidy up the apple tree mess than scrub tubs, toilets and floors. But the tree mess has now been taken care of and I have no more excuses to put off going inside and tidying up in there.

Sigh.

Did you have a good crop this year? And are they all cookers?
Ours are better that I first thought, but won't last much beyond the end if this year. Pity. We are having stewed apple every day. I love it.

Hi Jo!

We had an overwhelming crop this year - all wormy, except for the five pounds of sound fruit that I picked thorugh all the rest to find. They got turned into apple jelly.

We are hoping to wrangle what was a huge, unruly tree into a nice, respectable bearer.

If we didn't kill it, we'll begin to do the things necessary to keep the apples sound and unwormy.

Do you do anything special to keep your crop sound? I don't know what variety our tree is, but the fruit is crisp and delicious - slightly spicy.

Ha! I was just thinking of doing some pruning in the garden for that reason - to stall on the housecleaning...

At least there's a reward to gardening. The house is just going to get dirty again.

Hope the tree trimming was successful. :)

Hi adrienne!

I know - you clean it, they dirty it. It's a never ending cycle : )

It's so true that at least in the garden there are generally rewards for you efforts!

I came to you via adrienne. First I love your photo of the yellow leaves on the top of your blog. I feel like I'm sitting under the canopy. I can tell you're in full swing of cleaning up. I need to get started too.

If it weren't for the occasional visitors, I hate to think what our house would be like. I have a friend who claims one should clean house after a dinner party, because nobody notices and they make a big mess.
I'm tagging you for Honest Scrap. If you think you might like to take a break from chores to tell us about yourself, come on over and find out more.
